Change Settings to Not Convert Files to Google Files (word - google docs, etc)
Login to drive, and Hit the settings (gear) icon top right
Scroll down to uploads, and make sure "convert uploads to google docs editor format" is NOT checked. If checked, this convert all word docs to google docs.
